Traffic Management within a Smart City infrastructure

The Challenge

Our client requires the design and construction of a tool to monitor changes in traffic flows and provide valuable information in real time. The solution must also allow to anticipate possible incidents with predictive models.

| The Outcome

Our tool, Traffic Manager, enables the management and monitoring of traffic in a smart city infrastructure. Our client improved its Time-to-Market and has served as a reference in the integration of IoT devices for the management of Smart Cities and Territories.

Traffic Manager

How we did it

At LAUDE we proposed a solution that would respond to the client’s challenge, with a headless architecture, a backend -implemented in Java11/SpringBoot- that exposes a REST API to the frontend, implemented with Angular and Angular Material. In addition, docker-compose was used for stand-alone deployments and Kubernetes as an orchestrator in the Cloud.

The data backend consisted of three elements:

  • PostgreSQL to store normalized information generated by users and IoT devices.
  • Object Storage compatible with AWS S3, implemented by MinIO, for mass storage of images and videos.
  • Redis as a buffer for the transits sent by the cameras and to assimilate the information peaks during peak hours.

We followed a flexible incremental development method based on Agile methodologies. Thanks to our MVP, our client has implemented the final solution in different markets in Spain and Latin America.
